 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment. SMEDAN inaugurates special unit for women, youth empowerment


 Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye has inaugurated a unit at the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to champion women and youth entrepreneurship in the nation.


In a statement released by her media aide, Ohaeri Joseph, the minister praised SMEDAN’s management for incorporating women and youths into its empowerment initiatives, aligning with the current administration’s focus on revitalizing economic prospects.


She expressed satisfaction with the advanced tools available at the facility and conveyed the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with SMEDAN for inclusive growth and women’s empowerment.


Furthermore, the minister announced the ministry’s intention to integrate SMEDAN into its e-portal, serving as a one-stop-shop to facilitate marketing and enhance commercial activities between women entrepreneurs and end-users of their products and services.


The Director General of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, emphasized the significance of the common desk for women and youth empowerment, highlighting the agency’s commitment to addressing demographic challenges.


He said the newly established desk would concentrate on facilitating capital, training, and market access.
