 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: LASTMA TO BUILD NEW OPERATIONAL BASE IN IBEJU LEKKI

To ensure seamless traffic flow around the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan has confirmed that the Agency is planning to establish a new operational base to enhance seamless traffic flow around Ibeju Lekki and its environs. 


Mr. Bakare-Oki made this statement on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Head Office of the Agency at Oshodi by Mr. Olowa Abdullahi Sesan (JAJA) the Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area. 


He said, "As an Agency of Government saddled with the responsibility of transforming the State transportation system, we are collaborating with Ibeju Lekki Local Government for the establishment of a new operational base to address traffic challenges confronting motoring public around the axis”. 


The GM stated further that the Agency is working round the clock to also ensure that the activities of multinational investments including the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) and Lekki Deep Seaport (LDS) around Ibeju do not have any effect on the free flow of traffic along Lekki-Ajah Expressway axis. 


He assured motorists and residents that more Lastma personnel have been deployed to ensure that motorists, including commercial bus drivers, comply with traffic rules and regulations around the Ibeju Lekki axis. 


Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Mr. Olowa Abdullahi Sesan (JAJA) congratulated Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan on his recent appointment as the General Manager of LASTMA. 


The Council Boss promised to fully support the Agency with every logistics to enable the immediate take-off of the new LASTMA Operational Base at Ibeju.
