 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  OBINABO VISITS ORAIFITE WIDOW WHO WAS CHASED OUT OF HER LATE HUSBAND'S HOUSE, ASSURES HER OF JUSTICE

The Anambra State Women and social welfare commissioner, honourable Ify Obinabo has assured Mrs Chinenye Okonkwo, Oraifite widow, who was chased out of her late husband's house  by her brother in law of protection and justice.


This she said when she visited the woman at her hometown in Oraifite.


Sharing her experience, mrs Okonkwo said after the death of her husband in 2017, her brother in-law Overheat Okonkwo first took her moulded blocks which she intended using without her consent and not only that tried ejecting her from her business premises before finally forcefully ejecting her from her husband's house..


According to the widow, the brother in law claimed that since her husband is dead and she's still tender, there's no use for her in the family anymore.


The Okonkwo widow noted that the brother in law further divided her late husband's land and built on it boasting that nothing will happen even as he demanded that her five children be handed over to him for guidance.


On what the community has done regarding this, she stated that Overheat has been summoned by the kindred, but unfortunately, nothing good came out of the meeting.


Speaking, Hon Obinabo assured her of protection and promised to get justice for her by bringing her back to her house and recovering her properties.


The Women Affairs boss reiterated the state government's readiness in fighting the course of widows in the state and warmed that time has gone when widows are oppressed and subjected to all kinds of pain.


The commissioner later visited the widow's nother in-law to hear her side of the story and from there proceeded to the Land where a gigantic structure has been erected already.


As at the time of this report, the honourable commissioner personally summoned the said Overheat Okonkwo to her office on Tuesday for hearing.
