 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Borno State: 100,000 Families To Benefit From Food Palliatives


The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has approved the distribution of food palliatives to over 100,000 vulnerable families to cushion the impact food inflation. 


Governor Zulum gave the approval during a meeting with traditional rulers, elders, community leaders and other stakeholders at Government House,  Maiduguri .


According to him, the beneficiaries would be selected from the twenty seven wards of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area.


Zulum reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring the welfare of Borno citizens, particularly to families struggling to access basic necessities of life, in the face of rising food prices and economic challenges.


                         “I have approved the distribution of palliative to 100,000 families in MMC and Jere Local Government Area to ease the hardship faced by our people in the wake of the rising cost of food and other essential goods,” Zulum said.


He announced that the distribution would commence in the coming days with Shehuri North, South, Feezan, Hausari, Gamboru and Mafoni wards.


Zulum assured that the distribution will be conducted in a transparent and accountable manner to ensure that the assistance reaches the targeted people. 


Similarly, Governor Babagana Zulum has also directed the distribution of the food palliative in seven Local Government Areas in the southern part of the state.


The local governments are Biu, Hawul, Shani, Kwaya Kusar, Askira-Uba, Chibok and Bayo.


He noted that his administration has consistently been distributing cash and food items in areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency to enhance their livelihood and ward-off vulnerable residents from joining the ranks of insurgents.
