Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. GEORGIA MOTHER ARRESTED IN THE DROWNING DEATH OF HER 1-YEAR-OLD WHO FEKL INTO A HOLE FILLED WITH WATER WHILE HER MOM WAS GRILLING. (PHOTO)

 Georgia mother arrested in the drowning death of her 1-year-old who fell into a hole filled with water while her mom was grilling.


34-year-old Alisha Stevens was arrested on Monday and charged with second degree murder in the drowning death of her 1-year-old daughter.


According to authorities, the Burke County Sheriff's office responded to the call of an unresponsive child at around 12:45 p.m. on Monday. Once on scene, they found someone attempting CPR on a small child. First responders immediately took over and transported the child to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.


An Investigation into the death revealed that Alisha whom is the mother of 5 children had left the child unattended during a cookout. The child had fallen into an approximately 4 ft deep hole that had been dug at some point and had filled with water.


Officials determined Alisha had been grilling while letting her daughter run around their property unsupervised. Alisha noticed the child missing and went looking for her only to find her unresponsive in the hole.


The family contends it was only an accident that could have happened to anyone and the family is struggling with this loss. They believe the charges against Alisha are unjustified. 


However as of writing this story, Alisha remains in the Burke County detention center without bond.


How do you feel about this story? I remember when my children were 12 months old or a little older and they still could not walk very far without tumbling. But it has admittedly been two decades since I've had children that little.


I would consider this more of a negligent homicide charge then a second degree murder charge but that's just my opinion.
