 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment.  Georgia mother arrested in the drowning death of her 1-year-old who fell into a hole filled with water while her mom was grilling.


34-year-old Alisha Stevens was arrested on Monday and charged with second degree murder in the drowning death of her 1-year-old daughter.


According to authorities, the Burke County Sheriff's office responded to the call of an unresponsive child at around 12:45 p.m. on Monday. Once on scene, they found someone attempting CPR on a small child. First responders immediately took over and transported the child to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.


An Investigation into the death revealed that Alisha whom is the mother of 5 children had left the child unattended during a cookout. The child had fallen into an approximately 4 ft deep hole that had been dug at some point and had filled with water.


Officials determined Alisha had been grilling while letting her daughter run around their property unsupervised. Alisha noticed the child missing and went looking for her only to find her unresponsive in the hole.


The family contends it was only an accident that could have happened to anyone and the family is struggling with this loss. They believe the charges against Alisha are unjustified. 


However as of writing this story, Alisha remains in the Burke County detention center without bond.


How do you feel about this story? I remember when my children were 12 months old or a little older and they still could not walk very far without tumbling. But it has admittedly been two decades since I've had children that little.


I would consider this more of a negligent homicide charge then a second degree murder charge but that's just my opinion.
