 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Housemaid Battered With Hot Iron, Knife By Her Madam Is Currently In Stable Condition— Health Commissioner

The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has informed the public that the housemaid, Happiness Nwafor, aged 11, battered with hot iron, knife by her madam, Mrs. Adachukwu Chukere Okafor is currently in a stable condition after receiving adequate medical attention in one of the government owned facilities in the state.


Dr. Obidike thanked the doctors managing the child for their professionalism in handling the patient who sustained serious injuries after the barbaric act from her madam.


The Commissioner said, "the State Government and the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo through her Non-Governmental Organization, Healthy Living are collaborating with his ministry to ensure her treatment.


``The first day I saw this poor child, I felt so bad that a human being can actually inflict such injuries to her fellow beings and it is really disheartening to be honest with you.


``So, the orthopedic surgeon, trauma surgeon with other physicians are doing their best so as to ensure her quick recovery and for us, we will make sure that the child continues to receive the best possible care and I will continue to monitor her.


``Please, this should not even be done to an animal talk more of a human; the governor is making a sincere effort to build a society of law and order.


``Because you have a child doesn’t give you the right to treat the child the way you want and I strongly believe the law will take its course on this ugly issue".
