 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter.  Nasarawa Police Arrest Fake Corps Member In NYSC Camp 


The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a fake National Youth Service Corp member, Ogeh Bethel Chibuife at the Magaji Dan Yumusa Orientation Camp, Keffi.


A Statement Issued On Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel said the arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Keffi Divisional Headquarters by a Staff of NYSC.


According to the statement, the suspect was discovered after a head count was conducted on all Corps members undergoing a week’s orientation exercise at the camp.


The PPRO stated that the suspect, who was discovered to be a student of Ebonyi State University, Faculty of Management Science and Department of Public Administration gained unlawful entrance into the camp.


“She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022 but had a lot of spillover courses, and in a bid to cover up the lies she’d made to her parents, she went to the market and purchased NYSC uniforms/other items meant for Corps members and sneaked into the Camp to take pictures and send to her parents before nemesis caught up with her.


“The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Umar Shehu Nadada psc, mni hereby calls on all those nursing ambitions to toe the path of these fake corps members to have a rethink as the long arm of the law will catch up with them”, the statement added.
