 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NIGERIAN ARMY HELD THE 31ST EDITION OF SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS SEMINAR IN ILORIN



The Nigerian Army held the 31st edition of the social media influencers seminar at De Peace Hotel and Suite along University of Ilorin, Tanke, Ilorin Kwara State on 31 Jan 24. The event recorded large attendance and participation of social media influencers, online bloggers and vibrant youths across all the tertiary institutions in Ilorin and environ.  The Theme for the Seminar is “Emerging Trends on Social Media: Impact on National Security” is organized to bring to the fore the emerging trends on social media that could impact national security, and the roles social media influencers, bloggers and online media players could play in the management and usage of the technologies to the benefit of Nigeria in particular and humanity in general.


The GOC 2 Div, Maj Gen BA Alabi was the Special Guest of Honour and other invited guests from sister services and other security agencies.  In his opening remarks, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army recognizes the support of the good people of Kwara State and commends the peaceful disposition of the youths of Ilorin and environ. Maj Gen BA Alabi reassured the people of the continuous joint collaboration among the security agencies in the State to sustain the level of peace being enjoyed in Kwara State.  The GOC however enjoined all the social media players to be more responsible in their activities on the social media for the interest of national security.  


In his opening remarks, the CCMA Maj Gen NC Ugbo emphasized the need for all the participants to see the Nigerian Army as their army in order to understand the implication of their contents on security and peace of the Nigeria State.  Other dignitaries in attendance at the event were the Director General Land Forces Simulation of Nigeria Maj Gen UA Yusuf Kwara State Commission for Youth Development, Representative of Emir of Ilorin, and prominent social media content creators (Abdulgafar Abiola aka cute Abiola and Mrs Maryam Apaokagi Greene aka Taaooma).  Highlights of the seminar is presentation brief on the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Activities, and presentation of mementos to invited guests at the event and group photograph. Other highlights of the seminar included presentation of certificates and mementos to all the influencers, online bloggers and social media players present.
