 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  Odegbami predicts Nigeria's fate in AFCON


Former Nigeria striker,  Segun Odegbami,  has predicted Nigeria will emerge the winners of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Odegbami fondly called The Mathematical  tipped Nigeria and hosts, Ivory Coast to meet at the final of the competition in which he said  Nigeria will gain  upper hand.

The eminent sports personality who won the 1980 edition of the competition with the Nigerian  team then known as the Green Eagles, said, “I said long before the finals that we would be champions of Africa. Many people thought I was just sounding off. Now, they are seeing their light. Everyone appears to believe now that the Super Eagles can do it.

“Now that we are in the semi-finals, I am seeing that we are going to be playing the host nation, Ivory Coast in the final. We are beating South Africa and Ivory Coast will beat Democratic Republic of Congo. The stage is set for a classic final match on February 11.”

The Super Eagles of  Nigeria who will face  the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a semi- final encounter on Wednesday, defeated the Palancas Negras of Angola 1-0 in a  quarter final encounter.

At the group stage, the Eagles had shown superiority to the Ivorians whom they beat 1-0. They had afterwards gone to whip the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-o in the a Round of 16 match.
