 Oba Owoade crowned 46th Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. Owoade succeeds the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83. The coronation event took place today (Saturday) at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, where Governor Seyi Makinde led a host of dignitaries, including notable Nigerians. Dignitaries present at the coronation included the Olubadan of Ibadan,  Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and Aare Oona Kankanfo of Yoruba, Iba Gani Adams, among others PUNCH Online reports that ahead of the event, the Oyo State Government had put in place heightened security measures, including the deployment of security operatives at strategic locations within the ancient city and surrounding communities.  Super Eagles to get N9bn for AFCON win


The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will reward the Super Eagles  with N9 billion ($7m) if they win the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Nation reported the Confederation had increased the cash prize for the winners of the tournament from $5m to $7m.

The Eagles, who play the hosts on Sunday, are among the finalists and have already secured $4 million in cash prize.

The African tournamentā€™s runners-up will receive $4 million (N5 billion), the losing semi-finalists, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will each receive $2.5 million, while the four quarter-finalists will each receive $1.3 million.

In the official statement of the CAF on cash prizes for the competition, they wrote: ā€œCAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the prize money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions,ā€ Motsepe said.

ā€œWe have increased the prize money of the AFCON winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON prize money.

ā€œI am confident that a portion of the prize money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.ā€
