  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”.  Tobi Amusan set new 60m hurdles indoor record


Nigerian Athlete, Tobi Amusan has set a new African women’s indoor record in 60 metres after finishing at 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

Amusan retired the 7.77 record she had previously established in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January with her 7.75 seconds run in Boston.

However, despite setting the new record, she came second in Boston, with America’s Tia Jones finishing first in 7.72 seconds and Bahama’s Devynne Chalton finishing third with a time of 7.76 seconds.

Amusan had on January 27 in her opening race of the new athletic season, beaten the 7.82seconds African record set by fellow Nigerian Gloria Alozie.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
