 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Agency decries increasing cult activities in Abia higher institutions


The Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo has decried the increase in cult activities in the state’s higher institutions.


He made the condemnation on Tuesday in Umuahia following the recent clash between different cult groups in Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), which took the life of a student, leaving the institution in a state of unrest.


Nwankwo, who recalled the sensitization on Anti-cultism and Drug Addiction organized by his agency in December 2023, stated that the essence is to curb the menace of drug addiction and cultism among youths of the state.


He therefore enjoined all Abia citizens and residents, especially youths in various institutions of higher learning, to shun cultism and abstain from drug abuse, noting that the practices are destructive.


Nwankwo maintained that the reorientation and mind-shift initiative of the Governor Alex Otti administration must be sustained as its impact is already being felt.


He commended the governor for taking immediate action in restoring calm in the state university.
