  Oshiomhole Convinced Us To Make Obaseki Governor – Philip Shaibu Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has disclosed that his choice to support his former boss, Godwin Obaseki, stemmed from his respect for Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Naija News, Shaibu shared his doubts about Obaseki during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program on Tuesday. Shaibu admitted that he lacked confidence in Obaseki's leadership even before they took office on November 12, 2016. He explained that despite his initial hesitations, he ultimately backed Obaseki out of respect and based on the assurances provided by Oshiomhole. He stated, “Obaseki is not a politician.  Agency decries increasing cult activities in Abia higher institutions


The Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo has decried the increase in cult activities in the state’s higher institutions.


He made the condemnation on Tuesday in Umuahia following the recent clash between different cult groups in Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), which took the life of a student, leaving the institution in a state of unrest.


Nwankwo, who recalled the sensitization on Anti-cultism and Drug Addiction organized by his agency in December 2023, stated that the essence is to curb the menace of drug addiction and cultism among youths of the state.


He therefore enjoined all Abia citizens and residents, especially youths in various institutions of higher learning, to shun cultism and abstain from drug abuse, noting that the practices are destructive.


Nwankwo maintained that the reorientation and mind-shift initiative of the Governor Alex Otti administration must be sustained as its impact is already being felt.


He commended the governor for taking immediate action in restoring calm in the state university.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
