 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. ALL BY MYSELF ARTIST, ERIC CARMEN DIES AT AGED  74 


 Eric Carmen an American singer and songwriter known for hit song All By Myself, has died at the age of  74, his wife has announced.


The star rose to fame with the power pop group the Raspberries before establishing himself as a solo ARTIST.


He co-founded the Raspberries in the early 1970s alongside Jim Bonfanti and Wally Bryson, who were later joined by Dave Smalley after the departure of John Aleksic.


After four albums together, the band broke up in 1975 with Carmen then embarking on a solo career.


Among the solo tracks he is most well-known for is All By Myself, which later became one of Canadian singer Celine Dion's most iconic hits when she covered it.


"Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend," Carmen's wife Amy said in a statement on his official website.


"It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy."


She ended the statement with the quote "love is all that matters... faithful and forever" from his 1977 solo album Boats Against The Current. 


As a songwriter, Carmen had hits including Almost Paradise from the Footloose soundtrack, as well as Never Gonna Fall In Love Again and Make Me Lose Control.
