Ex-Governor Akeredolu's Wife, Betty, Lambasts Late Husband’s Niece For Backing Ondo Gov, Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s Administration
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has berated her late husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for backing the incumbent governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In an Instagram post made on Monday morning, Mrs Akeredolu berated Funke for supporting Aiyedatiwa ahead of the November governorship election in the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who was deputy governor to Akeredolu, succeeded his principal as governor following a leadership crisis caused by the latter’s absence in the state. Akeredolu had prostate cancer and was away from the state for months until his death.
Before his death, Akeredolu’s team accused Aiyedatiwa of betrayal during the time his principal was incapacitated and made futile moves to have him impeached by the State House of Assembly but President Bola Tinubu later intervened to resolve the crisis. Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as governor on December 27 following the death of Akeredolu.
Betty described Funke as a “bloody serpent” and said Funke’s loyalty to Aiyedatiwa would be tested by time.
She wrote: "Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’ Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!”
Meanwhile, in January 2023, SaharaReporters reported how Betty threatened Bunmi Ademosun, the then-Special Adviser on Multilateral and Intergovernmental Affairs to Akeredolu, asking her to stay away from her husband.
According to her, Ademosun had been giving Akeredolu concoction from fake pastors to treat himself.
Her words as heard in the audio obtained by SaharaReporters read: “This is Arabinrin, I have a message for Ademosun and I believe that she’s on this Aketi’s women platform. I want this woman to stay away from my husband, stop sneaking in concoction.
“According to her, they are from her fake pastors to give my husband to drink. We rely on medical care. We rely on western style of medical care and Aketi will get well.
“What has triggered this very message is her recent meetings to become the deputy governor of Ondo state. Look at you, what have you got upstairs to become the deputy governor of Ondo state?
“Peradventure anything happens to Aketi, Lucky takes over, it’s a constitutional thing. But for you to be scheming, for you to be scheming. I warned Aketi from the beginning that this woman is evil, this woman is no good and it’s happening. She has nothing good for you and I warned you. This woman is bloody evil. But I’m warning her for the very last time to stay away from my husband.
“And look, if you are dealing with an Igbo woman in this kind of situation, I’ll deal with you mercilessly that you won’t forget in your life. For the very last time Ademosun, stay away from Aketi, you won’t find it funny with me. You are a very terrible woman, go away and enjoy your look.”
