 Senate Approves Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers The Senate has approved the death penalty for those convicted on the charge of drug trafficking in the country. The punishment prescribed in the extant NDLEA Act is a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of a report of the Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and Drugs and Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters presented the report during plenary, Sen.Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North). The bill, which passed its third reading, aims to update the list of dangerous drugs, strengthen the operations of the NDLEA, review penalties, and empower the establishment of laboratories. EASTER: LAGOS NSCDC  DEPLOYS TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PERSONNEL TO PROTECT CRITICAL NATIONAL ASSETS AND INFRASTRUCTURE, KESHINRO FELICITATES WITH CHRISTIAN FAITHFULS.



In line with the recent charge of the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, Zonal Commanders and State Commandants of the Corps, across the federation, to ensure sustainable peace, security and safety of lives and property and with a marching order to intensify strong focus on our mandates, the Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro has deployed, two thousand one hundred and fifty ( 2,150 ) officers and men to also ensure the effective protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the state, before, during and after this year's Easter celebration.


The Command has identified all locations where these critical national assets and infrastructure, such as; oil and gas pipelines, communication cables, rail stations, electrical cables and power installations, local and international airport and other property belonging to the Federal, State and Local Governments amongst others for effective strategic operational mapping and planning.


The Lagos State Commandant has also ordered the Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Tactical Commanders of the Command, to assist other relevant traffic management agencies to ensure smooth traffic control, for easy movements of vehicles and persons during the celebration.


The Command has also instituted emergency response teams to respond to unforseen situations as they may arise in any location of the state during the festivity.


Other Areas of Responsibilities identified, by the Command to focus on during this year’s Easter include; worship and recreational centres, parks and gardens, black and hot spots, volatile communities and so on and so forth.


The Lagos State Commandant has also expediently, charged, the officers and men to bring the right and appropriate impetus on board, through the use of robust intelligence gathering and processing, intensive patrols of land and creeks, physical and psychological, crime prevention mechanisms, quick intervention approach and joint security mechanisms during the event.


The Lagos State Commandant, while appealing to the citizens to remain law abiding at this season also felicitated with the Christian Faithfuls in the state, over this year’s Easter and wished them all a peaceful and joyous celebration.


He however, also further charged the officers and men deployed to remain professional, competent, respect the rights and privileges of the civil populace, in the course of discharging their duties, before, during and after the celebration.
