 China, Russia, Iran warships arrive in South Africa for military exercises Chinese, Russian and Iranian warships arrived in South African waters for a week of naval drills starting Friday off the coast of Cape Town. The Chinese-led drills were organized last year under the BRICS bloc of developing nations and South Africa's armed forces said they will bring members of the bloc together to practice maritime safety and anti-piracy operations and “deepen cooperation.” China, Russia and South Africa are longtime members of BRICS, while Iran joined the group in 2024. It was not immediately clear if other countries from the BRICS group — which also includes Brazil, India and the United Arab Emirates among others — would take part in the drills. A spokesperson for the South African armed forces said he wasn't yet able to confirm all the countries participating in the drills, which are due to run until next Friday.  Eight Die As Tanker Capsizes Off Japan Coast


Eight sailors have died after a South Korean-flagged tanker overturned off the west coast of Japan.


Japan's coast guard said one other person was found in a non-life-threatening condition while two others remain missing. 


The Keoyoung Sun capsized off Yamaguchi prefecture after the crew radioed for help around 07:00 on Wednesday (22:00 GMT Tuesday).


The search is still on for another two sailors who were on board.


The ship was reportedly at anchor because of stormy weather. The coast guard said it was carrying 980 tonnes of acrylic acid.


The rescue operation has been taking place close to the city of Shimonoseki in the country's south-west.


The Japanese coast guard reports that the crew consists of two Koreans, eight Indonesians and one Chinese citizen.


Winds measuring up to 54km (33 miles) per hour were measured in the area on Wednesday.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
