 The Federal Government has prohibited military personnel from engaging in romantic relationships with their subordinates or the spouses of their subordinates.   Additionally, Nigerian military members are strictly forbidden from participating in homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, cross-dressing, and other activities deemed incompatible with the values of the armed forces.   They are also barred from body piercing, tattooing, disorderly behavior, intoxication on or off duty, and any actions that could bring public disgrace.   These rules are outlined in Section 26 of the updated “Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service”, signed by President Bola Tinubu on December 16, 2024.   According to the section:   - Officers must not engage in activities related to the LGBTQIA2S+ community or cross-dressing.   - Body piercings, tattoos, drunkenness, and public brawls are prohibited.   - Relationships wit...

 A devastating fire outbreak has ravaged a 4-storey building in Dosumu Market, Idumota, Lagos Island, resulting in the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.   SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
