 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  MAKINDE PRESENTS 28 BUSES TO STUDENTS, APPROVES PAYMENT OF BURSARY, SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS



Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde has continued his remarkable education Policies as he donated 28 18-Seater buses to Students Unions and Indigenous Associations of tertiary institutions in Oyo State to ease their mobility.


The Governor made the presentation of the vehicles during a special event held at the Car park of the Governor’s office state secretariat Agodi, Ibadan.


Addressing the Students, Governor Makinde noted that though the country is passing through a tough period, his administration would not relent in giving the best to the state.


The State helmsman added on his official Facebook page, that he had approved the payment of bursaries and scholarships to students and that the process will be online to ensure they can register to receive it easily.


Governor Makinde maintained that he is so sensitive to what the students are passing through regarding the state bursary awards and Students Scholarship, explaining that he had earlier signed the state scholarship and bursary awards for 2024.


While appreciating unalloyed support he has been enjoying from the state students from the days of Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0, governor Makinde, declared that Omituntun has become a movement for the betterment of the state, saying that the people of the state should look out for the Omituntun 3.0.


In remarks the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Victor Olojede, commended Governor Makinde for the remarkable achievement, describing it as unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.


He emphasized that no governor has ever done such a massive gesture of donating 28 buses to tertiary institutions and students’ bodies at the same time in the history of the country.


Olojede however appealed to Governor Makinde to address other pressing issues affecting students Other Students’ Unions leaders who spoke on behalf of the students, commended the magnanimity of Governor Makinde towards the state students, describing his Education policies as outstanding among his equals The event was also attended by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal; the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, the head of a service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, Commissioners, Political appointees, among others.
