 Anambra@35: Nonye Soludo Celebrates State’s Resilience, Greatness By MaryAnn Chukwuma Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra Governor, has congratulated Ndi Anambra on the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state, describing the milestone as a celebration of resilience, greatness and hope. Mrs Soludo, in a goodwill message issued to commemorate the anniversary, reflected on Anambra’s 35 year journey and the contributions of its people to the state’s growth and development. She described Anambra as a land of promise and possibilities, saying the state had continued to be defined by enterprise, courage, resilience, culture and an unwavering belief in what could be achieved. According to her, the strength of Anambra lies in its communities and the ingenuity of its people, whose determination, creativity and resilience have contributed significantly to the state’s progress. HAWAIIAN INMATE ESCAPES JAIL ONLY TO BE FALLY STRUCK BY VEHICLE WHILE HW WAS ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE GUARDS. (PHOTO).

 Hawaiian inmate escapes jail only to be fatally struck by vehicle while he was attempting to elude guards. 


Mathew Ornellas Jr. passed away Thursday after being struck by a vehicle during a daring jail escape last Friday. 


According to officials, Ornellas scaled a razor wire fence at Kauai community correctional center. Guards began chasing him but lost sight of him when he entered a brushy area. Moments later they heard a loud sound from a nearby road and went to investigate.  They soon discovered Ornellas lying on the side of Kuhio Highway suffering from serious injuries. 


He was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition until he passed away Thursday. 


Ornellas was a minimum security inmate serving time on a drug conviction. 


The driver who struck him fled the scene and is still at large. Police are asking anyone who knows the drivers identity to do the right thing and come forward with the information.


I can't help but feel sorry for him because he was only there on a light charge. I hope they find the driver. I'm sure he didn't see Ornellas, as he was eluding officers.
