 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. HAWAIIAN INMATE ESCAPES JAIL ONLY TO BE FALLY STRUCK BY VEHICLE WHILE HW WAS ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE GUARDS. (PHOTO).

 Hawaiian inmate escapes jail only to be fatally struck by vehicle while he was attempting to elude guards. 


Mathew Ornellas Jr. passed away Thursday after being struck by a vehicle during a daring jail escape last Friday. 


According to officials, Ornellas scaled a razor wire fence at Kauai community correctional center. Guards began chasing him but lost sight of him when he entered a brushy area. Moments later they heard a loud sound from a nearby road and went to investigate.  They soon discovered Ornellas lying on the side of Kuhio Highway suffering from serious injuries. 


He was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition until he passed away Thursday. 


Ornellas was a minimum security inmate serving time on a drug conviction. 


The driver who struck him fled the scene and is still at large. Police are asking anyone who knows the drivers identity to do the right thing and come forward with the information.


I can't help but feel sorry for him because he was only there on a light charge. I hope they find the driver. I'm sure he didn't see Ornellas, as he was eluding officers.
