 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. How chorister was shot dead inside church in Edo. 


The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the shooting to death of a church chorister, simply identified as Success. As at press time, it could not be ascertained if the incident which occurred last week Sunday (3 March, 2024), is cult-related or not.


It was however that the hoodlums stormed the Pentecostal church located around Murtala Mohammed Way at about 8 am when the Success and other worshippers were reportedly taking their Sunday school’s teaching.


The victim was said to have received a telephone call, and stepped out of the church hall, apparently to attend to the caller.

According to an eyewitness who craved anonymity: “Immediately he stepped out, one of the assailants held him by his waist within the church premises. “In the ensuing confusion, Success was wrestled to the floor, while another assailant emerged and shot him on the floor,”


“The gunmen thereafter collected his [Success] mobile phone before fleeing the scene.” The incident reportedly threw the worshippers into confusion and wailing.

All efforts to revive the victim was said to be unsuccessful as he was pronounced dead at a private medical facility he was rushed to for medicare.


The Spokesman for the State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, added: “investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators.”
