 A priest in Anambra State wedded a couple yesterday, despite disputes with the bride’s father In a video circulating online, the Reverend Father narrated that The father of the bride who is from Nteje had insisted that the wedding should not take place unless his daughter swøre never to associate with his mother whom he has a quarrel with. The conflict arose from past marriage issues between the father and her mother. Before the wedding, the father repeatedly met with the priest, warning that he had already taken the bride's mother to a deity and that the girl must follow him to the shrine to appease that deity before the marriage can go on. For peace to prevail, the priest advised the couple to comply with all the father’s requests so the wedding could proceed, the priest even donated some of the items that the brides father told her to bring to use in appeasing the deity. The Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko,  Uche Onyegbu has called on the matriculating students to give in their best for the opportunity they have to advance in their academic career.


Dr Onyegbu stated this during the 40th matriculation of the institution, stressing that it's a defining moment of their life which must not be wasted.


While congratulating the students for making Federal Polytechnic Oko their choice of institution, noted that Federal Polytechnic, Oko is an institution where utmost attention is paid to high quality education and high standards of learning.


"As an institution, we understand the imperative of quality education and we have entrenched measures that will checkmate compromising our standard, to ensure continuous attainment of premium education by our students".


The acting rector who charged the new students on good morals and character, urged them to shun Indecent dressing, social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, extortion and hooliganism.


"Education with character produces great nation builders and that is what we aim at achieving here.


" We have zero tolerance for these profane acts and indulging in them attracts severe penalties including expulsion.


"May I passionately appeal to you to resist extortion by lecturers or even students under any guise. Report any such case to the management.


"The management has come out with a dedicated phone line that will be for cases of extortion. This is in demonstration of our resolve to stamp out this dangerous practice.


"We are sounding a note of warning to all staff that this administration does not condone exploitation under any guise. Do not allow yourself to be used to set example," he stressed.


While reassuring the students of management's commitment to ensuring their stay in the institution was both successful and fruitful, Onyegbu listed some of such commitments to include ensuring all programmes run in the polytechnic were accredited as well as maximum security for sustainable peace in the institution.


 " We have also put measures in place to renew the accreditation of some of the programmes whose accreditation validity will be expiring soon. 


"We are also going to mount new programmes especially in engineering and the sciences. Management has ensure that there is security and sustainable peace in the polytechnic so that the students can concentrate on their studies without fear or danger of molestation, he assured.
