 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  APC state chairmen pass confidence vote in Ganduje


…say ‘coup’ to sack him has failed


Forum of All Progressives Congress State Chairmen, on Tuesday, passed a vote of confidence in the party’s National chaiyrman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

 

The 37 state party chairmen said there was a coup to remove Ganduje as APC National Chairman but it failed.


They made their position known during a solidarity visit to the secretariat of the party in Abuja, where they pledged their allegiance to Ganduje.


The acting Chairman of the Forum and Lagos APC chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said they were solidly behind Ganduje and would defend him against external aggression.


He said, “We are here to let you know that you remain the captain of the ship. After all, those who made the announcement were not even known to the party in the first place. We will not allow you to be embarrassed like the former chairmen of the party.


“What they wanted to do was a coup. But the coup has failed. We are here to show that we are solidly behind you anytime, any day.”
