 Up at dawn for front-row seat to history at Francis’s funeral Many had woken up at dawn while others slept in their cars before Catholic faithful poured into St Peter’s Square from all corners of the globe on Saturday, fuelled by a desire to honour Pope Francis. As the first rays of the day rose over the sprawling Baroque plaza, mourners rushed towards empty chairs once they had passed through metal detectors, anxious for a front-row seat to history. Among them was Jean-Baptiste Leclezio, a 22-year-old from Lyon, who slept on the ground overnight at the seat of the Catholic Church to be among the first to enter for the funeral of Francis, who died on Monday age 88. “We took floor mats and sleeping bags and we slept there with 400 people, a lot of young people, scouts,” he told AFP. “There were people singing all night but we managed to sleep,” he said. COURT CONTEMPT: The National Security Adviser(NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Intercedes for Malam Idriss with emphasis on peaceful coexistence


It can be recalled that, on 5th February 2024, the Bauchi State Police Command declared the renowned Islamic cleric, Malam Idriss Abdulaziz Dutsen Tanshi wanted, gazetted for contempt of court. Such action is hereby suspended. However, today on 8th April, 2024, Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Auwal Musa Mohammad, psc, in his effort and dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence and harmonious relations among the figures in the State, spearheaded a peace pact between Malam Idriss Abdulaziz and the Government of Bauchi State at the Police State headquarters. The peace pact was signed and witnessed by the Director, Department of State Security Services (DSS), the Commandant Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Bauchi state.


The Commissioner of Police as the Chairman of the Security and Allied Agency in Bauchi State, resolved to ensure that the communication gap that was identified as the causative agent among others responsible for deteriorating the relationship between the parties would be addressed without hesitation. He expressed his unequivocal appreciation to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Sen. BALA MOHAMMED ABDULKADIR, CON, (KAURAN BAUCHI) for honouring the call of NSA and other relevant stakeholders for the peace accord and maintained that, the written commitment that was signed would be judiciously observed by the parties concerned.


Malam Idris Abdulaziz Dutsen Tanshi should understand that while he enjoys the right to freedom of speech, he should not use the pulpit as a platform to insult or make derogatory and abusive statements against preachers/clerics. He should strive to foster an atmosphere of peace and harmony within the community through his preaching, regardless of differences in opinion or religious beliefs. It is, therefore, imperative that he respects constituted authority henceforth


We hope that this marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and understanding in Bauchi State.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
