  President Bola Tinubu has identified the creative economy as a pivotal element of his administration’s economic diversification agenda, reaffirming his commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a driving force for global influence. The President stated this at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the carnival reaffirms the essence of who Nigerians are—”a people of culture, a people of art, a people of colour, and a people of shared values”.  Gunmen Storm University Of Calabar Hostel, Kidnap Three Students


Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped three medical students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Cross River State, South-South Nigeria.


It was reported that the incident occurred on Thursday night.


The students were identified as Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the same department.


Confirming the abduction, the spokesman for the Cross River State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, said the command along with other security agencies had launched a manhunt for criminals to ensure the rescue of the victims.


Ugbo said the students were abducted on Thursday night at one of the university's hostels inside the campus but did not provide further information.


According to the police spokesman, "the police are working in collaboration with other agencies to rescue the students."
