NATIONAL BOARD FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION APPROVES NEW COURSE FOR LAGOS COOPRATIVE COLLEGE
The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has secured provisional accreditation approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to commence the National Diploma programme in Computer science.
The Board also granted full accreditation to two other National Diploma Programmes at the College, namely: Cooperative Economics and Management as well as Micro Finance and Enterprise Development.
Approvals for all the programmes were disclosed at the end of the National Board for Technical Education Accreditation and Resource Inspection Team's visitation to the College at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos between the 18th - 21st April, 2024.
Addressing the delegation during the visit, the Provost of the College, Mr. Akorede Ojomu said that after the Panel’s last visit to the College in September, 2021, which resulted in the granting of interim accreditation for two National Diploma programmes, the State Government has continued to upgrade facilities at the College.
Ojomu stated that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration is working to match the realities and demands of the 21st-century educational system and ensured that the Lagos State Cooperative College became the preferred destination for cooperative education in the country.
He averred that the college recruited additional experienced teaching staff, constructed an additional building complex that houses lecture halls, a larger sick bay, library extension, computer laboratory, consumer shop, as well as offices and conveniences for the staff and students towards accommodating the increase in student population as well as comply with the resource requirements of the NBTE for all programmes.
In her remarks, Dr. Kubura Jaro, Deputy Director, Specialised Institution Division, NBTE, commended the Lagos State Government's support for the College in providing qualitative education to the populace.
She said, “To ask for additional programmes within the space of three years is a sign of good development and management. Sincerely, my appreciation and gratitude goes to the state government for providing additional infrastructure and manpower to the College”.
According to her, the accreditation exercise is a systematic review of education programmes to ensure that standard of education and infrastructures are being maintained.
She added that the National Board for Technical Education and all Intuitions across the country are partners in progress
