OVER 25 MILLION PHONES STOLEN IN ONE YEAR- FG. (PHOTO).

 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.   Taskforce Demolishes Shanties, Impounds 359 Okada At Fagba.


Lagos State Taskforce has impounded 359 commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada dislodge and dislodged defiant squatters who erected shanties along the rail tracks at Fagba axis of Lagos.

This exercise is a follow up to the move to clear the railway after the launch of the Red rail Line  project by Lagos State Government.


The operation which was led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye covered areas like Fagba Rail Track, Iju-Ishaga, Abbatoir and Pen Cinema resulting in the confiscation of bikes that operated on restricted routes, State Highways and Bridges located in those areas. 


During the course of the okada operations, the Lagos State Taskforce after a month of launching the Red Line Railway project by State Government cleared out shanties that have sprung up along Fagba Rail track and confiscated bikes that troop out from inner streets to operate along the tracks. 


CSP Shola Jejeloye stated the criminality and hooliganism which is prevalent in these areas are enabled mainly by okada operators and squatters who turn to crime and rob innocent residents and train commuters. He disclosed that the confiscation of motorcycles would go a long way in reducing crime and incidents of bag snatching which most perpetrators make use of okada as a get away means. 


The Chairman hinted that the fight against the menace of okada is on-going in every nook and cranny of the State and no stone will be left unturned till that fight is won.
