 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  TROOPS NEUTRALIZE TERRORISTS IN CLEARANCE OPERATIONS IN BORNO, NASARAWA, RECOVER ARMS



In a proactive effort to maintain peace and security , troops of the Nigerian Army  successfully conducted clearance cum cordon and search operations in Borno and Nasarawa states, resulting in the obliteration of terrorists and recovery of firearms.


On 19 April 2024 troops in  collaboration with hybrid Force, carried out a Clearance operation in Kana Village, Biu  Local Government Area of Borno State. During the operation, troops had an encounter with the terrorists around Nguma Village and neutralized  two terrorists in the firefight.The troops also recovered  two AK-47 rifles, one motorbike, 6 bicycles, and other sundry items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. The clearance operation is still ongoing in the general area.


In a different operation on the same day, acting on credible intelligence, Nigerian Army troops deployed in Nasarawa State conducted a Cordon and Search operation at a suspected criminals' hideouts around Abuni Village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.  The operation led to the recovery of 2 AK-47 rifles, 2 AK-47 magazines, and 35 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special).   The recovered weapons were found in the residence of one Mr Abdullahi Musa, leading to the arrest of  other suspects.


These successful operations point to troops' commitment in ensuring the safety and security of the populace. We urge members of the public to continue to support the Nigerian Army, other services and security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
