Convicted war criminal Lubanga announces new rebel group in east Congo A convicted war criminal based in Uganda has announced a new rebel movement intent on toppling the government in eastern Congo's Ituri province, creating another potential security threat in the war-scarred region, Reuters reported. The formation of the Convention for the Popular Revolution (CPR) by Thomas Lubanga, an Ituri native, comes as Congo's army faces an unprecedented advance by Rwandan-backed M23 rebels elsewhere in eastern Congo. The International Criminal Court secured its first conviction against Lubanga in 2012 on charges of recruiting child soldiers and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.  Why I didnā€™t build schools as Anambra gov ā€” Peter Obi replies Omokri

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has explained why he did not construct new schools as Anambra State governor.

A former presidential aide and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, had challenged the former Anambra state governor and his followers to present a single school he built in his eight years as governor.

Reno promised a reward of 10,000 dollars to anyone who could show a school built by Obi.

Reacting to Reno at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi said individuals who made such claims had not taken advantage of his manifesto.

He said that Anambra state was ranked 26th in the nation when he arrived, with shuttered schools and a broken educational system, saying that by the time he departed, Anambra had risen to the top.

Obi said, ā€œI improved the quality, physical and mental well-being of the people, schools, had the basic things they needed and the people shone like stars and that was my manifesto.

ā€œBuilding new schools when the old ones are moribund is just like building coastal lines when internal roads are impassable.ā€
