QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION ON PRESS FREEDOM DAY PRESS CONFERENCE    1. QUESTION   We want a confirmation from the Minister of State for the Federal Ministry of Environment to tell us if the environmental impact and social assessment certificate has been issued to the Federal Ministry of Works for the execution of the Lagos Calabar Highway project.   HM STATE, ENVIRONMENT’S RESPONSE   The Environmental impact and social assessment are mandated by law for some categories of projects, both public and private. The Federal Ministry of Environment implements that law, and I can tell that we take it very seriously and don't joke with it. As a matter of fact, I can tell that in recent months, we have observed a few loopholes in the existing law, and we are already approaching the Federal Executive Council to see how we can block those loopholes. The Federal Ministry of Works has applied since December 2023 for environmental impact and social assessment for the Lagos Calabar Highway proje

Why I didn’t build schools as Anambra gov — Peter Obi replies Omokri

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has explained why he did not construct new schools as Anambra State governor.

A former presidential aide and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, had challenged the former Anambra state governor and his followers to present a single school he built in his eight years as governor.

Reno promised a reward of 10,000 dollars to anyone who could show a school built by Obi.

Reacting to Reno at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi said individuals who made such claims had not taken advantage of his manifesto.

He said that Anambra state was ranked 26th in the nation when he arrived, with shuttered schools and a broken educational system, saying that by the time he departed, Anambra had risen to the top.

Obi said, “I improved the quality, physical and mental well-being of the people, schools, had the basic things they needed and the people shone like stars and that was my manifesto.

“Building new schools when the old ones are moribund is just like building coastal lines when internal roads are impassable.”
