 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. A GRANDMOTHER LOST HER LIFE RUSHING CHILDREN TO SAFETY AFTER SOMEONE OPENED FIRE ON A MOTHER'S DAY PARTY SHE WAS HOSTING.(PHOTO).

 An Alabama grandmother lost her life rushing children to safety after someone opened fire on a Mother's Day party she was hosting.


64-year-old Gloria Crews, lost her life on Sunday, May 12th, in front of the grandchildren she was trying to protect.


According to reports, this wonderful woman who was helping raise her 6-year-old nephew and was her 84-year-old mothers primary caregiver, was hosting a celebration which included several generations of her family.


As the family was enjoying each other's company; outside, an unknown assailant opened fire. This grandma sprang into action never once thinking of herself, her only mission was to get the children inside.


Sadly she was struck by a round. Montgomery PD and first responders arrived at the scene around 7 p.m. Unfortunately they were unable to revive this heroic grandmother.


According to her family she worked 3 jobs to help support her family and "didn't have a bad bone in her body".


There have been no arrests made and the Montgomery Police are asking anyone with any information to call Montgomery PD at 1-344-625-2831 or call the Secret Witness line at 1-344-625-4000.


Our hearts go out to the family of this very special woman. We hope she gets the justice she deserves.
