 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Three burnt to death in Lagos auto crash


Three persons were burnt to death in a road accident that occurred on Sunday at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo, Lagos.

Ths Lagos State Emergency Agency through its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu provided an update about the incident.

He said: ” Upon arrival at the scene at 11:38 pm, an accident involving a Mercury Benz SUV with an unknown registration number and a truck conveying a 40 foot container was encountered.

“A preliminary investigation carried out upon arrival at the scene revealed that the SUV collided into the truck due to over speeding. The impact of this collision resulted in a fire outbreak from the car engine.

“Unfortunately three adult male inside the car were all severely burnt and died due to the impact of the collision.

“Responders at the scene of the incident include the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, SEHMU LASTMA, Nigeria Police and LASAMBUS.

“Recovery of the accidented containerized truck and car with the aid of the Agency’s heavy duty equipment equipment Crane, Lowbed and Super Metro while the Flatbody and the carcass of the burnt car were towed to the Lastma yard.

“Extrication of the three burn victims trapped inside the car with the aid of the light rescue equipment was carried out and the remains were subsequently bagged and handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue”.
