 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Three burnt to death in Lagos auto crash


Three persons were burnt to death in a road accident that occurred on Sunday at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo, Lagos.

Ths Lagos State Emergency Agency through its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu provided an update about the incident.

He said: ” Upon arrival at the scene at 11:38 pm, an accident involving a Mercury Benz SUV with an unknown registration number and a truck conveying a 40 foot container was encountered.

“A preliminary investigation carried out upon arrival at the scene revealed that the SUV collided into the truck due to over speeding. The impact of this collision resulted in a fire outbreak from the car engine.

“Unfortunately three adult male inside the car were all severely burnt and died due to the impact of the collision.

“Responders at the scene of the incident include the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, SEHMU LASTMA, Nigeria Police and LASAMBUS.

“Recovery of the accidented containerized truck and car with the aid of the Agency’s heavy duty equipment equipment Crane, Lowbed and Super Metro while the Flatbody and the carcass of the burnt car were towed to the Lastma yard.

“Extrication of the three burn victims trapped inside the car with the aid of the light rescue equipment was carried out and the remains were subsequently bagged and handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue”.
