 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  Eid-el-Kabir: Senator Lawan distributes N222.5m cash, food items to constituents


In a bid to foster community support and alleviate economic strain ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir festival, Senator Ahmad Lawan, President of the 9th Senate, has extended a generous hand to constituents of Yobe North Senatorial District. A total of N222.5 million in cash and assorted food items have been disbursed to households across 60 wards within six Local Government Areas (LGAs).


The initiative, orchestrated through the Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (SAIL) Foundation, targeted 3,430 households and individuals facing economic challenges exacerbated by the current high cost of living.


Cash gifts ranging from N100,000 to N20,000 were distributed, along with substantial quantities of essential food supplies and clothing items.


Beneficiaries included not only households but also traditional leaders, party executives, and stakeholders within the district.


The distribution encompassed 1,500 carton boxes of spaghetti, 1,140 bags of maize and guinea corn, as well as 1,500 sets of children’s clothing, 800 wrappers for women, 2,000 blankets, and 2,000 mats. Orphanages within the district were also recipients of the benevolent gesture.


Chairman of the Selection and Distribution Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Jamo, emphasized that the initiative was designed to provide relief and enable constituents to partake in the upcoming celebrations with joy and peace. He highlighted the significance of Senator Lawan’s support during these challenging times, reflecting a commitment to community welfare.


In response to the initiative’s success, Senator Lawan expressed his appreciation to the committee for their diligent efforts and urged beneficiaries to utilize the gifts judiciously.


He extended warm wishes for a blessed and harmonious Eid-el-Kabir celebration, emphasizing unity and solidarity among constituents.
