 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Forging a Brighter Future: Ministry of Education and CIDSAN Unite for Educational Advancement


In a significant move towards enhancing Nigeria’s education sector, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Hon Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, welcomed the Executives of Chartered Institute of Development Studies and Administration of Nigeria (CIDSAN) for a crucial meeting. This engagement focused on discussing essential issues and initiating collaborative efforts to drive educational advancements in the country. 


Dr. Sununu underscored the Federal Ministry of Education's pivotal role in national development, emphasizing the necessity of robust partnerships between citizens and the Ministry. He highlighted the need for comprehensive data on educational institutions and personnel for effective planning and resource allocation, and stressed the urgent requirement to address the issue of out-of-school children through joint efforts.


The Minister outlined several key initiatives, including the importance of improving teacher training, welfare, and societal status to enhance education quality. He advocated for integrating skills training with formal education to boost employability and economic productivity, and emphasized the use of technology in education to keep pace with global advancements. 


The Honourable Minister assured the Ministry's support for various educational initiatives and reforms, announcing that the Ministry's Education Planning, Research, and Development (EPRD) and Human Resource Management Departments  (HRM) will liaise with CIDSAN to explore collaboration areas.


Dr. Elijah Ogbuokiri, President of CIDSAN, outlined the institute's objectives and collaborative goals . He emphasized the primary purpose of introducing CIDSAN for proper recognition and announcing its upcoming accreditation. Dr. Ogbuokiri highlighted CIDSAN's role in training and specialization areas, such as Gender and Youth Empowerment, Development Communication, Community Issues, Entrepreneurship and MSME Development, Migration, Diaspora and Refugee Issues, and Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation. He reiterated CIDSAN's mandate to support and guide the ministry, emphasizing proper governance and processes in development administration. Additionally, he discussed the institute's focus on providing tailored training and consultancy programs to enhance sectoral skills and capacity. 

Dr. Ogbuokiri expressed readiness to support the Ministry and underscored the importance of cooperation for effective initiative implementation. He also invited the Honourable Minister and the ministry to CIDSAN's forthcoming National Conference in November, seeking their presence and participation.


The Chartered Institute of Development Studies and Administration of Nigeria (CIDSAN) is dedicated to advancing development studies and administration through education, certification, and training. CIDSAN aims to empower individuals and communities by enhancing skills, promoting effective governance, and fostering sustainable development.
