 Nigerian banks face 182% more weekly attacks than global counterparts Nigerian banks and financial institutions are targeted by 182.01 percent more cyberattacks than their global counterparts, according to Check Point Software Technologies, a cyber security platform provider. The firm revealed this in its 2024 African Perspectives on Cyber Security Report, which was released on Thursday. It noted that the threat of cyberattacks has grown in Africa, especially in Nigeria, where 4,718 weekly attacks target the banking and financial sectors. This is 182.01 percent more than the weekly average of 1673 that their counterparts globally face. It said, “Nigeria’s finance sector is one of the most significant in Africa, making it a top target for cybercriminals.” It highlighted that the top threats include InfoStealer and Banking Trojans, as well as weak multi-factor authentication and outdated banking systems, which make the sector very vulnerable. PRESIDENT TINUBU SYMPATHIZES WITH VICTIMS OF KARU MARKET FIRE IN FCT



President Bola Tinubu receives the news of the fire incident, which affected sections of Karu Market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with deep sadness.


On Thursday evening, fire ripped through a swathe of the market, destroying property and other valuables.


President Tinubu extends his heartfelt sympathies to all the traders affected by this distressing incident, and assures them of his administration's full support.


The President urges caution and adherence to essential safety measures to prevent fire outbreaks and other accidents.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
