 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Security: Anambra Business Man Donates Communication Gadgets For Community

An Anambra business man, Chief Chuka Emedebe has donated 30 Motorola communication gadgets to Oba community vigilante operatives through OPU to enhance their safety and effectiveness in maintaining peace and security.


Chief Emedebe while presenting the gadgets to OPU President General, Chief Anthony Uzor Ejiofor, praised the security outfit's performance and encouraged them to continue protecting lives and properties in the area.


According to him, "I did this to help in providing security in Oba, on two occasions I have made cash donations to Oba and I will get more things for them with time,to help improve on security, even if security is everybody's business," he stated.


He commended the OPU President General and members for their dedication to community security, recounting how a recent encounter with their prompt response inspired his donation.


The Oba security Chairman, Chief Basil Igwilo and the Special Adviser on Security, Mr Nriama Ebuka, commended Emedebe, saying that the donation would spur them to perform more than they have been doing and urged other good spirited individuals to emulate the donor.


In his response, the PG, Chief Anthony Uzor Ejiofor expressed satisfaction with the donation to help beef up security in the area and commended the donor for assisting to ensure safety of lives and properties in Oba.


He reiterated the resolve of OPU to protect her people and properties, disclosing that OPU has been able to restore peace in Okuzu Oba and other places even as he urged other well to do individuals to emulate the kind gesture of Emedebe.
