 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  8 children rescued from ghastly accident in Kogi


Eight school children have survived a ghastly motor accident in Lokoja the Kogi State capital.


Eyewitness account told newsmen that the children are pupils of Kingdom Heritage Nursery and Primary School Lokoja.


It was gathered that the children were returning from school when the sad incident occurred on Thursday at the popular Lokongoma market in Lokoja.


It was further gathered that a heavy-duty truck carrying a container load fell on two small vehicles which trapped the Children.


Through the combined effort of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other relevant agencies, the children were rescued.


The Kogi State Security Adviser Commodore Jerry Omodara Rtd. who was on ground to ensure the rescue of the school children confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday.


As of the time of filing this report, efforts are still in place to ensure that the truck is evacuated from the road to ensure free flow of traffic.
