 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Kano Gov Reinstates Dethroned Emir Of Gaya, Appoints New Emirs For Karaye, Rano


Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of the second class emirs of Gaya, Karaye and Rano Emirates.


Director General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.


The newly appointed emirs are

Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye as Emir of Karaye, who until his appointment was District Head of Rogo, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar as the emir of Rano.


Until his appointment, Umar was the district head of Bunkure.


The deposed emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, was reinstated as emir of Gaya.


Unlike other deposed emirs,Abdulkadir accepted his fate and expressed willingness to work in any capacity after his deposition was announced.


The governor congratulated the newly appointed emirs and enjoined them to be the custodians of culture ,peace and unity of the people in their respective Emirates.


The statement said all the appointment were with immediate effect.


The Kano Assembly passed the Kano State Emirate Council establishment bill, on Tuesday.


The governor had assented to the bill, leading to the creation of three second class emirates.


Speaking after signing the bill into the law at the Kano State government house, the governor said establishment of the Emirates is a testament that the government recognizes the traditional institution.
