 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Kenyan President Cancels First Lady’s Office Budget, Official Trips Amid Protests 

President William Ruto of Kenya has announced key austerity measures aimed at addressing public discontent and cutting government expenditure amid protests in the East African country.


Budgets allocated to the offices of the First Lady and Second Lady have been eliminated, while a ban was also placed on the purchase of new cars for government use.


President Ruto further dissolved 47 state agencies and suspended all non-essential travel for government workers.


The president also announced that the number of his advisers has been reduced by 50%.


The decisions come after three weeks of anti-government protests, which have seen citizens demand greater transparency, accountability, and better governance.


President Ruto’s actions are seen as a step towards addressing these concerns and demonstrating fiscal responsibility.
