 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Man disappears after answering phone call in Abia


A young man aged 34 years, Mr Onyekachi Kingsley Ugochukwu, has been declared missing by his family in Isiala Akpaa Amaiyi village, Osisioma Ngwa LGA of Abia State.


Ugochukwu, who is said to be fair in complexion, was said to have disappeared without trace after allegedly answering phone calls from an undisclosed person.


According to Onyekachi Alfred Ahuama, the father of the missing person, Ugochukwu was last seen on June 24 at about 5:PM when he picked a phone call from someone and has not been seen again.


The father, who expressed fear over the whereabouts of his son, appealed to anybody with information about Ugochukwu to contact the family.


The matter was yet to be confirmed by the Police as at the time of this report, as messages sent to the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, were not responded to.
