 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  One dies, two survive in Anambra road accident


A fatal motor accident has claimed one life and left two others unhurt opposite the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in Nteje, along the Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra state.

The crash, which occurred around 9:30 am, involved a Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ125JV and a Ford Explorer with registration number ZBL626RL.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Camry driver lost control and collided with the Ford Explorer after crossing into its lane on the single-carriageway.

He said one male adult lost his life, while two other male adults were rescued uninjured.

He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to stay alert and maintain full concentration while driving.

The eyewitness said: “A fatal road traffic crash happened opposite FRSC Command Nteje by Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway.

“A driver identified as Chiweuba Evaristus Chidiebere with a private Toyota Camry with Registration Number: ABJ125JV, and an unidentified driver of a private Ford Explorer with registration number: ZBL626RL was involved in a fatal crash.

“Three male adults were involved in the crash. 1 male adult was killed. 2 male adults were rescued unhurt.

“FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje rushed the victim to Chira Hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor and his corpse was deposited at New Jerusalem mortuary Nteje.

“The team managed traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared.”
