  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms. PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS ICONIC ARTISTE, ONYEKA ONWENU



President Bola Tinubu extends his profound condolences to the family of the late Ms. Onyeka Onwenu.


Ms. Onwenu was a singer, songwriter, actor, journalist, activist, and politician.


President Tinubu mourns the passing of the Queen of Songs, whose edifying and mellifluous rendition, 'One Love', in the 1990s evoked a fervour of fellowship and harmony.


The President recalls the many artistic interventions of the late musical icon in promoting public good, noting her classic collaboration with King Sunny Ade on 'Wait for Me', a melodic campaign on family planning in the 1980s.


President Tinubu celebrates the life of the versatile and extremely gifted artiste who applied herself to the whole gamut of artistic enterprise and expression, bringing joy and laughter to many. 


The President condoles with the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the numerous fans of the departed star over this immeasurable loss.


President Tinubu prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased artiste and that she finds a place yonder where the music never fades and where there is 'Dancing in the Sun'.


The President states that Ms. Onwenu lives on in her immortal masterpieces.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
