 Rep. Chuck Edwards withdraws reelection bid after House Ethics Committee finds evidence of misconduct Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina announced Wednesday that he is ending his reelection campaign, days after the House Ethics Committee said it found “substantial evidence” that he violated House rules involving sexual harassment and a hostile workplace. Edwards said he will complete his current term in Congress but will not seek another term representing North Carolina’s 11th District. He said serving Western North Carolina has been the honor of his life and thanked supporters for their trust. Edwards, who has served in the House since 2023, was expected to face Democratic nominee Jamie Ager in the November general election. The decision came after the House Ethics Committee investigated allegations that Edwards engaged in inappropriate conduct toward two young female staff members.  Taskforce Sets To Remove Shanties Built Along Canal Setback


Lagos State Taskforce has served removal notices to squatters and illegal occupants dwelling across various canal setback in the State in an effort to curb the incessant flooding occurrences experienced during heavy downpours in the Metropolis.


The notices which were served to settlers today by The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, were carried out at strategic locations where it has been observed that squatters had built shanties and makeshift buildings too close to drainage system which contravene the laid down physical planning laws of at least 15 feet from the canal setback.


Akerele described the activities of the squatters as a time bomb due to unpredictable climate change experienced across various parts of the world.


CSP Akerele further disclosed that shanties across various canals at Soluyi Gbagada, Gbagada Bus Stop (Beside Atunrashe Estate), Charlie Boy Bus Stop and Bajulaiye canal were all visited by the Agency to notify the occupants of the intention of the State Government to clear out those areas.


Akerele stated that reports had also been received by residents and artisans around Gbagada axis of the illegal activities of miscreants who also make use of the shanties as their hideout from which they set out to perpetrate crimes such as bag  snatching and car vandalism around the area.
