  NBC bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s protest song ‘Tell Your Papa’ from radio, TV The National Broadcasting Commission has barred Nigerian radio and television stations from airing the trending song “Tell Your Papa” by veteran rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, citing its “objectionable nature.” In a memo dated April 9, 2025 and issued by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the commission declared the track Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB) under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. This section prohibits content deemed inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency from being aired on Nigerian broadcast platforms. According to the NBC, while the song has gained momentum across social media platforms, its lyrical content fails to meet the standards of responsible broadcasting.  We can handle local government elections – INEC


The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it can comfortably handle the conduct of local government elections if the responsibility falls on it.


The Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, stated this on Thursday when he appeared before the joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters over preparations for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.


According to him, INEC has the capacity to handle the local government elections but that would only be possible pending when the law is amended to permit it to do so.


He explained that the Commission had been conducting area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory which has been devoid of the problems associated with the conduct of local government elections in the states.


He also pointed out some advantages of INEC handling LG elections to include regular elections as at when due, stability of tenure. He also noted that there has never been a LG caretaker committee in the FCT.


Yakubu further noted that there has never been a time one political party has won all the seats in the FCT as is common in the states.


According to him, if INEC handles the election, it would be better for democracy.


He, however, said this can only happen if the Constitution is amended to take the responsibility away from state electoral commissions.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
