 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. 13-YEAR-OLD BOY CHARGED AS AN ADULT AFTER TAKING THE LIFE OF A 10-YEAR-OLD AT A "BEST FRIEND" SLEEPOVER. (PHOTOS).

 13-year-old Pennsylvania boy being charged as an adult after taking the life of a 10-year-old at a "best friend" sleepover.


13-year-old James Campbell is in custody and is going to be tried as an adult in connection to the death of 10-year-old Hunter Meyers.


According to reports the 2 were having a sleep over at Campbell's home Wednesday night. The next morning 911 operators received an alarming call. As officers arrived at the home in Donegal Township, Pennsylvania, they were stunned by the scene they were met with.


Little Hunter Meyers was found deceased in an upstairs bedroom having suffered multiple puncture wounds in the head. The weapon (a knife) used in the attack was found next to him. As police began to investigate the death, they found James Campbell with evidence on his shoes and pants as well as cuts on his hands.


Hunter's mother, Dorothy, says the boys were "cousins and best friends" and that she was completely blindsided by the senseless homicide. At this point there seems to be no clear motive in the attack.


James Campbell is being charged with first degree murder and has been denied bond. He is being tried as an adult which is something Dorothy has pushed for even as she asks for compassion for James and his family. She is quoted as saying "My son was asleep and never had a chance to react or be scared".


This is a truly heartbreaking story and our thoughts are with the families and friends of everyone affected by this crime.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
