 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. A MOTHER AND HER FIVE CHILDREN DIED AFTER EATING DANWAKE IN KANO. (PHOTO).


 A mother and her five children have lost their lives after eating Danwake, a local Hausa delicacy in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State. 


 

The incident occurred at late Malam Abdulkarin house, on Thursday, August 15.

 

A neighbour, Garba Muhammad told Daily Trust that due to economic hardship and hunger, the widow who was the one catering for her five children used an expired cassava flour to prepare the food.

 

“Eating the food led to the d£ath of the six members of the family, including the mother," the source said. 

 

Those who lost their lives include Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children; Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman and Jamilu.

 

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, August 17, said six members of the family who ate the food were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where they were confirmed d£ad by doctors

 

Kiyawa added that investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of their d£ath..
