 Trial begins of Central African ex-president Bozize over war crimes A UN-backed court in the the Central African Republic will on Tuesday begin the trial in absentia of former president Francois Bozize, over crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The alleged crimes committed by members of Bozize's security forces include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape. Bozize, 79, who seized power in a 2003 coup before being overthrown 10 years later by rebels, has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023. But three of his former senior military officers, Eugene Barret Ngaikosset, Vianney Semndiro and Firmin Junior Danboy, are all in pre-trial detention in the Central African Republic. Crimes against humanity The case will be heard by the Special Criminal Court (SCC), a hybrid jurisdiction located in the capital Bangui with Central African and foreign judges.  Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members begin orientation August 28


The National Youth Service Corps has announced the schedule for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course.


The announcement was contained in a circular dated August 7, 2023, and titled “2024 Batch “B” Orientation Course”.


It was signed by the Director, PRS, Ahmed Ikaka, for the Director General of the corps.


The circular noted that the orientation exercise will take place across all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.


The orientation course is set to commence on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with registration slated to run from August 28 to August 30.


The deadline for registration is set at midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024.


The swearing-in ceremony, a significant event marking the official start of the service year for the new corps members, is scheduled for Friday, August 30, 2024.


The course will then proceed through various activities aimed at preparing the corps members for their service year, culminating in a closing ceremony on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
