Benjamin Kalu Movement Hits Back At Obi Aguocha Over Unwarranted Attack on Deputy Speaker

The Benjamin Kalu Movement (BKM) has responded to a public statement made by a House of Representatives member, criticizing Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu.

BKM finds the statement unfortunate and objectionable, accusing the member of losing focus on their mandate and instead acting as a media aide to the Abia State Governor.

The movement demands to know what provoked the outburst and challenges the member to account for their stewardship, listing their achievements and contributions.

BKM warns that non-performing lawmakers will be recalled in 2027 and advises the member to retract their statement, apologize, and learn from Deputy Speaker Kalu’s leadership.

Read the Open letter below:

Dear Hon. Aguocha,

The Benjamin Kalu Movement (BKM) has taken note of your recent public statement suggesting that the seat of our Principal, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, may be declared vacant. We find this statement unfortunate and objectionable.

Whereas you are entitled to your opinion, it is quite disappointing that such misguided utterance is coming from a supposedly honourable member of house of representatives

BKM, as non-profitable and non-partisan organization, whose activities revolve around community services, is worried that you have lost track of your mandate, as a representative of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, to becoming a Media Aide to Governor Alex Chioma Otti, the Governor of Abia State.

Having watched the viral video over and over, we are demanding to know the very ingredient or ingredients in that very clear and direct expression that have actually provoked this unwarranted outbursts of yours.

The question begging for answers remains, where did the Deputy Speaker actually err? Is it by expressing optimistic but realistic position about his party producing the next governor of Abia State come 2027? By maintaining that his party and himself are working very hard to actualize the set goal? By expressing that it is better to leverage the party at the center to increase development in Abia State? Or by extending olive branch to a friend and the governor of Abia State to join him in APC, the party at the center? What is wrong in marketing and projecting one’s party?

As a representative of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, you have failed to provide meaningful contributions or leadership. Your attendance at social events does not constitute effective representation. We challenge you to account for your stewardship by listing the bills and motions you have sponsored, federal projects you have attracted, and human capacity building initiatives you have implemented before challenging our Principal, the performing Deputy Speaker of our time.

It is already a public notice that your constituents are demanding a town hall meeting for you to outline your achievements. It is no longer acceptable to occupy a seat without delivering tangible results. We expect a scorecard of your accomplishments.

Your attack on Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu is baseless and malicious. By 2027, there will be a mass recall of non-performing lawmakers, starting with you. You will be sent back to your clan, where you can assume a more suitable role as their town-cryer since you are good in community information service.

We urge you to retract your statement and tender unreserved apology to the Deputy Speaker and Ikwuano/Umuahia constituents who elected you to represent them and not to be a media aide to Abia State Governor

You are enjoined to learn from the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, collaborating with him will bring more dividends of democracy to your constituents and Abians in general, for a battle against your leader is a battle you can never win, no matter who is backing you – know this and save your constituents from wasting their time, as they are in dire need of dividends of democracy, especially in this trying time of our democracy.

A stitch in time, saves nine!

Sincerely,

Ogwo, Okechukwu Kalu Ph.D

State Chairman, Benjamin Kalu Movement
