 NERC: 112 Nigerians Killed in Electricity-Related Incidents in 2024 The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported 112 electricity-related deaths and 95 injuries in 2024, with wire snaps, unsafe conditions, and vandalism identified as major causes. Despite a slight 2.6% drop in fatalities compared to 2023, the report shows distribution companies (DisCos) remain the primary source of safety lapses, accounting for over 90% of casualties across all quarters. Ibadan, Eko, and Kaduna DisCos recorded the highest number of incidents, while NESCO and Yola DisCos maintained clean safety records in multiple quarters. The Commission said it has launched investigations and concluded three compensation settlements for victimsā€™ families, reaffirming its commitment to safety enforcement within the power sector.

 Obaseki Approves Appointment Of Civil Service Commission Members, Two Perm Secs

The appointments are subject to the confirmation of the Edo State House of Assembly..


The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has approved the appointment of members of the Edo State Civil Service Commission with Lalla Aluyi as Chairman. The governor also approved the appointment of two new Permanent Secretaries in the Edo State Public Service..


The appointments were contained in two separate statements signed by the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa..


On the Civil Service Commission, Okungbowa said: ā€œIt is hereby announced for the information of the general public that, His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has, in line with his powers under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, approved the appointment of the following persons as Members of the Edo State Civil Service Commission:

ā€œLalla Aluyi, as Chairman; Ehi Obaseki, member; Gilbert Adegboyega, member; Julie Olatunji, member and Margaret Ohiowele, member.ā€
