 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  *Soludo Inaugurates Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission*

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, has on Tuesday, August 6, inaugurated the chairman and members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).


The chairman of the Commission is Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe while the members are as follows: Mrs. Bernadine Obande (FCA), Barrister Osita Cyril Igbokwe, Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnalue, Mrs. Helen Ifeyinwa Umeh, and Mr. John Emeka Okeke.


The Commission is tasked with setting the date for local government elections and overseeing the organization and conduct of peaceful and transparent local government polls in Anambra State.


While inaugurating the Commission, Governor Soludo stated that the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as well as the Anambra State Electoral Law has explicitly mandated ANSIEC to conduct the local government elections in a transparent and independent manner.


Governor Soludo charged the members of ANSIEC to serve with honour and integrity in an exemplary way that will highlight the Anambra ethos as “The Light of the Nation”.


The chairman of ANSIEC, Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe assured Governor Soludo that her team is a formidable team that will wade through the storm and offer the enlightened people of Anambra State diligent and transparent service based on their antecedents.
