 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. GUNMEN KILL STUDENTS IN YOBE SCHOOL. (PHOTO).

 Gunmen kill students in Yobe School 


Gunmen, believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, have attacked Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State killing some students. 


The school is associated with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), a Shiia sect in Nigeria.


According to sources who spoke to Daily Trust, the attackers struck in Hausari quarters in Geidam LGA around 3:44am on Friday. They entered the school while the students were sleeping.


“The incident occurred at around 3:44 am, when the gunmen invaded Faudiya School a well known Shiite school in Geidam.”


“They (gunmen) attacked the school when these youth were asleep and brought them outside and shot them dead. The source said. 


Another source from the vigilantes command told Daily Trust that three members of Shiia sect were killed while one sustained injuries.


The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident, and the Assistant Director of the Public Relations Unit of Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2 Damaturu promised to provide more information.
