 Nonye Soludo highlights sports as a tool for youth character development Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has described sports as a powerful tool for character formation and social inclusion among youths in the society. Soludo made the assertion, yesterday, in Awka while flagging off the 2nd edition of the Nonye Soludo Volleyball Championship. The group stage of the championship will be concluded today, while the final will be decided on Saturday. She said the competition was aimed at promoting youth development, teamwork, and healthy competition through sports. She further explained that the tournament is part of efforts to positively engage young people, discover talents and encourage discipline and unity among youths in the state. “This competition will also serve as a platform for nurturing future volleyball stars.  Imo LG polls: Gov Uzodinma denies endorsing aspirants


The Imo State Government has refuted a report alleging that the Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma has already endorsed certain candidates ahead of the September 21 council polls, describing the report as false and misleading.


In a release by the SSA to the governor on Electronic Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, he stated that the Governor had never done any endorsement of the aspirants.


“We want to categorically state that this claim is false and misleading. Governor Uzodimma has not endorsed any aspirant for the elections, neither privately nor publicly.


“There is no list of endorsed aspirants existing anywhere, and the Governor has not made any statements to that effect and will not make,” he stated.


He added that in a recent stakeholders’ meeting, the Governor urged all aspirants to go and meet the electorate for their votes without waiting for personal endorsement.


“We want to emphasize that the Governor is a true democrat who would allow true democracy ethos to thrive and is committed to a free and fair election and will not influence the outcome.


“We therefore advise the public to discountenance such false information and instead focus on the issues and qualifications of the aspirants for consideration for election at the appropriate time,” he further stated.
